"그것이 어째 없을까?" 아내가 장문을 열고 무엇을 찾더니 입안말로 중얼거린다. "무엇이 없어?" 나는 우두커니 책상머리에 앉아서 책장만 뒤적뒤적하다가 물어 보았다. "모본단 저고리가 하나 남았는데......." 나는 그만 묵묵하였다. 아내가 그것을 찾아 무엇 하려는 것을 앎이라. 오늘 밤에 옆집 할멈을 시켜 잡히려 하는 것이다. 이 2년 동안에 돈 한 푼 나는 데는 없고 그대로 주리면 시장할 줄 알아 기구(器具)와 의복을 전당국 창고(典當局倉庫)에 들이밀거나 고물상 한구석에 세워 두고 돈을 얻어 오는 수밖에 없었다. 지금 아내가 하나 남은 모본단 저고리를 찾는 것도 아침거리를 장만하려 함이라.…Work and source information
